Daily Reminder: January 23, 2012

During a meeting with congressional leaders on January 23, 2009 regarding his stimulus package, President Obama was confronted with concerns by Republican leadership about the spending in the bill, and about the merits cutting the two lowest tax rates from 15 and ten percent to ten and five percent—the GOP’s proposal—versus the president’s proposed refundable tax credit, which worked out to be a whopping $13 per week for Americans and would return money to those who do not pay taxes.

Rather than address the concerns presented by GOP leaders, President Obama dismissed them with a simple argument:

“I won.”
