Common Sense, or Partisan Rhetoric?

The Internet and the blogosphere in America have become supercharged with political activity during the past several years, activity that has radiated a degree of heightened awareness regarding the cultural crossroads at which we find ourselves. This has all no doubt been in direct, exponential proportion to what the American people have clearly come to view as a direct attack on the very essence of the freedom that defines the history of their country. 

While it’s a fairly sound fact that conservatives in America–a group, by the way, that a recent Gallup poll once again identified as the majority in this country–have come to dominate the major social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook during this incredibly turbulent time, Liberals have also been lighting up the keyboards with powerful blogs of their own.

In this context, America’s Right has not only managed to present what I have always perceived to be thought- and discussion-provoking articles from a litany of talented writers but has also managed to make somewhat of a foray into speaking with candidates from around the country, as can be seen in our “Interviews at AR” section.  It is, for the most part, a foregone conclusion that what remains of the waning vestiges of integrity in the mainstream media is now being confronted by what might be aptly referred to as “the people’s media” or “the new media”, as American citizens are now taking it upon themselves to fulfill the role of the governmental watchdog that the Founders had envisioned for those with paper and pen and who were asking the hard questions.  It’s become all too evident that our national media no longer protects the American people from the government; it does, in fact, protect the government from the American people.

On December 30, we presented an interview with Mr. Ozzie deFaria of Weston, Florida, a man who has taken it upon himself to run against the ever omnipresent Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the current DNC chair, in Florida’s District 20.  There’s no doubt that taking on such a high-profile political figure, one with such a high degree of influence, is fraught with some landmines, not the least of which is the funding of the Democratic machine that her people can bring to bear on an opponent.  There are, however, signs that Ozzie can bring a serious legitimacy to the opportunity to represent the people of South Florida in Washington, DC.  One discussion with the man and a person comes to sense the honesty and integrity that are at the core of his personal values.

Several days ago, Mr. deFaria released a statement in response to Wasserman-Schultz’s contention that the political discourse in America has changed, apparently as a result of the influence of the Tea Party. The past several years have seen the regular, everyday people who are members of the Tea Parties around the country and/or those who have gathered in Washington to protest the sledgehammer-like policies of the current liberal administration have routinely been smeared, raked through the mud, and in some cases have even had their reputations associated to the very policies of the Democrats themselves (i.e, “Tea Party Downgrade”), etc., etc. Contrast the slanderous language of our political Left with an actual comment of a DC park ranger: “We never worry about these people”.

Sure seem like violent extremists, don’t they?

The counter to the Tea Party movement has been, of course, the “Occupy” movement, one that has had little to zero organization and has become an incubator for crime and horrific behavior. For example, one look at merely a piece of the rap sheet provides quite the picture:

Of course, from the moment Rick Santelli of CNBC gave symbolic “birth” to the Tea Party movement back in February of ’09, and as the movement very quickly became the defining political force of this generation, it became an absolute Democratic necessity to bring it down by any means possible.

For as often as the Democrats and their sycophants label and smear the movement, the more obvious it becomes that the only real reason that this is being done is that everyday, common-sense Americans – conservatives, not Republicans – are “in the way”. The DNC  -  spearheaded by Wasserman-Schultz  -  has, for the past several years now, resorted to one of the most preferred, age-old, propaganda-driven tactics of socialist governments throughout history: tell a lie big and often enough so that as many people as possible believe it. In this case, we’re specifically referring to Wasserman-Schultz’s unfathomable, reckless, inexplicable, and callous decision to re-visit the Gabby Giffords shooting in an attempt to smear the reputations of good people as deeply as possible.

You know, Gabby Giffords strikes me as a truly good person. I’ll admit that I don’t know a whole lot about her, but what I have learned as a result of her tragedy is that she seemingly does really care about people and the country. I’m sure that she and I would disagree on more than several issues, but she certainly strikes me as a woman who would want more than anything to try to work those differences out. I’m curious, therefore: is she on board with Wasserman-Schultz’s re-visiting the most horrific day in her life merely for the political gain of her party?

deFaria responded to all this by saying,”Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a two-faced Obama attack dog. She will say and do anything to reelect Barack Obama, including making bold, straight-faced lies to the American people. In the exact same sentence that she says “I hesitate to place blame…” she goes on to blame the Tea Party. The fact of the matter is Debbie Wasserman Schultz has a long record of making the most vicious, vile, and unprofessional statements about conservatives and Republicans. It’s laughable that someone with her record of insulting and degrading statements would call for civility. If she wants to rein in an era of civility, she should start the process by resigning as Obama’s top attack dog and quit her post as DNC Chair.”

Indeed, there is a veritable plethora of evidence in which Wasserman-Schultz is on record making what can only be termed “outrageous” statements, as can be seen here:

Wassermann Schultz: “‘From my own observation, I think there are racist elements among people who affiliate with the tea party. To the degree that the Republicans have embraced wholeheartedly the tea party movement, they risk absorbing those characteristics as well,’ she said.”

“‘Our protest is different because I don’t see any swastikas, or any pictures of the president in black-face or burned effigies here,’ Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-FL) said at an Anti-Allen West (R-FL) rally.”

So, remind me again – who is it that’s using the hateful rhetoric? And has she ever provided a shred of evidence – video clip, newspaper article, interview, etc. – in which a Tea Party member has resorted to the behavior of which she so stridently accuses them?

You know, it’s funny. About 60 years ago, a person that has gone down in history as one of the greatest political pariahs of all-time, Senator Joseph McCarthy, began a series of anti-communist hearings that took on a life of their own. A point of which many everyday people are unaware is that the Kennedy family was fairly close to McCarthy, a godfather to several of the Kennedy children. For all intents and purposes, the Kennedys and McCarthy shared a very, very, similar political outlook – if one were to read closely the words of JFK in many of his speeches and writings, the only conclusion at which a reasonably intelligent person can arrive is that if he were transplanted into today’s political arena in DC, he would be a slightly right-of-center Republican, perhaps along the lines of a Mitt Romney. The Kennedys, however, knew that McCarthy was a hatchet man and a bomb-thrower who would, in the long run, turn himself into a political jackal; ultimately, however, they also knew that he was doing the right thing. The Kennedys were smart enough to sit back and let the steamroller pave the road while they walked that road to Washington.

McCarthy was, absolutely and without question, a bombastic drunk and a blowhard; he knew, however, that something was afoot. He obviously erred in his turning legitimate concerns about subversive activity into witch hunts and managed to turn public perception against himself. My question here is simply this: in what way(s) is the reprehensible, unaccountable, and unchecked behavior of Wasserman-Schultz any different from the admittedly reprehensible behavior of Joseph McCarthy? Or is it that we’ve merely gone from communist witch hunts to conservative witch hunts?

Given that the history of far-left politics around the world is littered with the bodies of millions of corpses (see North Korea), the one big difference between what McCarthy was trying to expose and what Wasserman-Schultz is attempting to do is simply that he was right.

deFaria’s response to Wasserman-Schultz’s brazen and unsubstantiated attacks on conservatives also made note of another step that he has taken in an effort show everyone in South Florida just who it is that is representing them and their interests in Washington at a time when the unemployment rate hovers around 10% in their region. The statement reads:

deFaria has launched a website (http://www.ObamaAttackDog.com) that highlights Wasserman-Schultz’s various outrageous statements attacking conservatives. Ozzie deFaria is a first generation citizen who has lived the American Dream without one government handout. He worked his way through college and then climbed the ranks at AT&T to become an executive managing a $1.5 billion portfolio. He left AT&T to serve as the CEO and COO of other firms. Throughout his career, Ozzie helped create over 2,000 private sector jobs and added $800 million to the economy.

I obviously can’t speak for the people of South Florida, but it would seem to me that the clear, common-sense choice – Ozzie deFaria – is standing directly in front of all of you.
