Perry Wins [The Debate]

Two of the best answers of the night belonged to Rick Perry.  The first one, in response to an astonishing question on capital punishment, was absolutely knocked out of the park.  The honesty and tone of his second answer, in the context of a back-and-forth with Mitt Romney about Social Security, may have single-handedly put me in the Perry camp for the rest of the primary season.

#1 — On Capital Punishment in Texas

Brian Williams:  Governor Perry, a question about Texas.  Your state has executed 234 death row inmates [during your tenure], more than any other governor in modern times. Have you struggled to sleep at night with the idea that any one of those might have been innocent?

Did you watch the second half?

  2. Jeff Schreiber says:

    The second half?

  3. Linda C. says:

I repeat Jeff’s inquiry: “The second half?”

I had to turn off my cable and I don’t have a newer TV so I missed the whole debate – sorry to say, BUT, thanks for sharing these two clips. I like Perry more and more – you are right – he hit these two questions out of the ballpark.

  5. Jordan Bell says:

Its unfortunate so many are going for the big spending former Democrat. He will continue to take us down the same path we are already on.

There is a VERY interesting poll titled ‘Who do you think
won the Republican debate at the Reagan library?’ The
    URL is below.

Please notice who the clear winner is and also notice
how the chart has been SKEWED to make the #2 person
look twice as better as he really is!!

Watching him speak I almost wanted to puke. Bush(redux)! Didn’t we have enough of this snake oil salesman type with “W”. We have to stop electing idiots. Bush, Obama, Perry?

  8. Jeff says:

Just because he is a former Democrat is not a reason to vote either for him or against him. Anyone who votes based upon that litmus test really has no business voting in the first place. I know plenty of Democrats who are conservative and obviously there are Republicans who have liberal leanings. Grow up and learn about how they stand on the issues.

Nice, educated rebuke of Perry and what he stands for Ladalang…..

  9. Jordan Bell says:

I have grown up and I know where these Republicans stand on the issues. They don’t stand at all. All they have is soundbites. They blow in the wind. None of them, aside from Ron Paul, adhere to any form of principles on liberty and freedom.

Ron Paul has been advocating for the abolishment of the Federal Reserve and the right to opt out of Social Security before Perry ever decided to make some comments about them.

Don’t forget Perry using stimulus funds to balance his State budget, and also did his part to help push for the TARP bailout. Or how about his executive order to force vaccination on young girls? That right there is the perfect model for government interference into your life. If you are truly an advocate for limited government and personal responsibility, then Perry shouldn’t be anywhere near the top of your list. Obviously the choice is yours, but don’t pretend to be an advocate for “In Liberty we Trust” and then support a candidate who will give you anything but that.
