Yes, This is America’s Right. Yes, We’ve Changed.

Well, I guess the cat is out of the bag with regard to our plans for redesign.  While you can get a pretty good idea of where we’re going, the site is nowhere near done.

Up at the top, where the photos are revolving, you’ll see the featured articles.  Down below, you’ll see the “News and Views” section, where you’ll find all of the pieces that you normally see.  Generally, after the Featured Commentary has run its course at the top, the piece will be moved down to News and Views.  In between it all, you’ll see a selection of A.R. Essentials, and you’ll see some shorter Assigned Reading pieces.  I agonized about how best to organize everything, and this is what I came up with.  Expect it to change.

I know it will take some getting used to.  Believe me, there’s a WHOLE LOT of “getting used to” on my end — the old site was a lot easier to maintain.  Also, there are some bugs that I need to look into, among them the fact that all old links to articles at AR do not work.  This includes the links to all articles by a specific contributor, though I think that can be fixed soon.

Anyway, there will be some adjusting on all sides.  We intended to do this all along during my break from school. The outage we experienced for the past few days, though, really forced my hand.

I hope you understand, and I hope you continue to come to AR for commentary and such.

In case there are no new posts until I have things set up over the next few days — have a wonderful, merry Christmas.

Jeff

It seems more likely, that rather than server troubles, you have taken the opportunity to scrub your blog of past comments, and limit future comments. Being a web person myself I smell a rat, and an inability to just tell your followers straight up what you are doing. This redesign will make it easier for the brainiacs to pontificate without having to worry about the feelings of the riff raff.

Not at all. All 27,000 comments and change are there.

It wasn’t the CIA. It wasn’t the White House. Something happened with DNS settings or something, and we were left with a blank page. Certainly not what I wanted. Not now. But it did force my hand with regard to the redesign.

There’s always at least one in every crowd – John Doe.

Better colors Jeff. Need better colors. Blue is good, but I am a little biased there. Royal Metallic Blue.

I’m a computer nut. Have been since the early 80s. Those DNS servers and such can be real bears. Networking is not just knowledge. It is an art. And a little bit of luck.

Hahaha. Being a web person, you should know that things like this happen.

Oh and Jeff, I take it you are moving to WordPress?

Jeff, What you didn’t know what to do with that extra 10 minutes you had one day so you redisigned your site!?!
Cripes, I’ve barely had time to turn on my computer with all my cleaning, cooking and wrapping the last couple of days. You are master of multitasking.
Merry Christmas to you, your family and the AR family.

  7. I don’t like change!! This is totally throwing me off my groove, but I’ll get used to it….like anything else. ;-) I’m sure it will look fabulous when it’s all done. But I agree with a commenter above: More colors!! Especially patriotic ones.

    Merry Christmas!

Now this is a change I can appreciate!

Thank you, Jeff, for your tremendous amount of hard work you’ve put into this website. It is, and has been for the last 14 months when I discovered it, invaluable.

Merry Christmas to you and your family. God bless.

I’m working on it! It’ll get up soon.

We’re also working on the logo, and getting the rest of the 27000 comments imported. We’ll get there.

Yippeee! Thank you, thank you, thank you, … I was starting to go through withdrawals without my AR fix! Thanks Jeff, for all the hard work that you put into this site. Don’t pay attention to the trolls … the only rat I smell is the one named John Doe.

Thanks for your site!!!! I was beginning to ‘jones’. I like the new site already. Jeff, while the site was down you mentioned going to your Facebook page. I wondered about asking you to become a friend but I thought you would think, “who’s this guy” and just deny my request. Besides with all the people who visit your site how could you possibly manage all the requests. Thanks again from a grateful military man that struggles with the direction our government is currently taking.

It took me awhile to figure out the new site but I did it. I was also going through withdrawal when I couldn’t read your news everyday. Thanks for all your hard work. I will continue to learn how to manuever through the new look. Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

It’s gonna take a bit of getting used to, like moving furniture and moving through a room with the light off! (I miss the Jefferson Memorial; it was so beautiful!) And, William A. Rose is correct, I think–better colors, as in something bluuuuue!

Thanks for all your hard work!

(Y’all, I’m going to be away from the computer for a while. My friend in the next town north is not well.)
