Jail Time Awaits Americans Without Insurance

Assigned Reading: Pelosi: Buy a $15,000 Policy or Go to Jail
(FROM: GOP Ways & Means)

Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Dave Camp (R-MI) released a letter from the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain “acceptable health insurance coverage” and who choose not to pay the bill’s new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.

We’ve been talking about this at America’s Right for a while now, but it was nice to see the information specifically linked at the Drudge Report.

In the meantime, I’d love for someone–Pelosi, perhaps?–to show me where, in the Constitution which governs our government, Congress has authority to do any of this. Please? Someone?

    hey Jeff,
there ain't gonna be anyone show up to defend their position on this Bill, cause there ain't anything IN THE CONSTITUTION that even remotely gives that sort of power to the Congress.

Offer a reward, maybe that will get someone to go out on a rope, and then you can hang 'em by it….

Did you catch Napolitano standing in for Glenn Beck today? He had a quote from some high ranking Dem who when asked where in the constitution was there a mandate for what the bill was imposing, answered with something along the lines of 'Congress is always doing things that the constitution doesn't allow.'

    Unbelievable!

I am gonna post this on my Facebook and watch all my liberal church going folks shun me. Sheeple.

If you believe in God, pray for the health of Judges Scalia, Thomas, Kennedy, Stevens and Roberts. If this monstrosity passes, these five frail old men are the last barrier between us and the New Soviet Empire. Well, either that or a civil war.

  5. Hugh says:

Of course Congress has no Constitutional authority in this matter or in most matters that are current on their docket.

    Consider: No taxation without representation.

There is a whole lot more to representation than going to Washington, DC and the Congressmen and Senators abusing, ignoring the American people.

It is truly sick and depraved. They would not sign up for the healthcare plan, but they would fine us and imprison us. Yes, it is truly sick and depraved.

And they expect us to respect and honor their efforts. Such arrogance.

Since Pelosi obviously lives in OZ…perhaps someone will drop a house on the "Wicked Witch of the West"

That woman hasn't a clue of the real world everyone else lives in.

Rix, there's nothing civil about war. I think we're in store for a very uncivil war.

  8. Dale Kemp says:

    Rix,

If war is what it takes to be free then so be it. I won't go seeking war but I cannot prevent someone from bringing war to me.

Should this become law, I will not obey.

  9. LET'S BE CIVIL says:

A civil war is a war between organized groups within a single nation state[1], or, less commonly, between two nations created from a formerly-united nation state[2]. The aim of one side may be to take control of the nation or a region, to achieve independence for a region, or to change government policies[1]. It is high-intensity conflict, often involving regular armed forces, that is sustained, organized and large-scale. Civil wars result in large numbers of casualties and the consumption of large resources.

War may be uncivil, but so is living without freedom and liberty.

Then, we fill up the jails!!! Just how many 60-80 yr olds are they going to lock up???

  13. Dee says:

I'm with Anonymous at 8:44am. I am more than willing to go to jail. Pelosi is a nut job to say it nicely. Who does she think she is to "mandate" that everyone either by "acceptable" insurance, and that is defined by their standards, or pay a fine or go to jail. This is not a monopoly game.

  14. CRUEL AND VERY UNUSUAL says:

Dee, jail would be bad enough but I hear they force you to hang a Barney Frank calendar in your cell.

If enough people refuse this and get “sent to prison”, all the prisons will be full, and the cost burden of keeping everyone in prison will destroy the country. It is unsustainable to put everyone in prison for something silly like this. Don’t burn your draft cards like they did, just refuse to comply with their health insurance requirements… when enough people do that, it will become obvious that the penalty is unenforceable. Who will the Dems tax to pay for all the new prisoners, since all the new prisoners are the middle class who the Dems were trying to tax in the first place? All those poor people and illegal immigrants are going to have a hard time paying for their free health care AND keeping all of us in jail.
