Assigned Reading: Boehner Blasts Barack Obama’s Olympic Move
(FROM: Politico)

Let me be clear that I’m not pleased to see the president jetting off to Copenhagen to advocate for Chicago as host of the 2016 Olympic Games when there truly is so much to be done here at home, not the least of which is a decision on whether or not he wants to augment troop levels in Afghanistan.

Of course, it should be noted that, while Barack Obama is across the Atlantic doing his best impression of Mayor Daley, Americans are being hurt and killed across the world out of need for more resources. The underlying self-serving issue at hand with regard to the Olympic bid should also be considered, and the Republicans are doing America a disservice by failing to point out that Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett’s old company, Habitat, stands to gain a whole lot of money should the Games come to the Windy City.

Still, John Boehner and the GOP need to be careful here. First, they need to remember how strenuously the Bush administration and Republicans argued that the president of the United States carries with him the White House wherever he goes, and specifically that George W. Bush was perfectly capable of carrying on America’s business from his ranch in Crawford, Texas. Second, they need to remember that they are winning the debate over health care and cap-and-trade here at home, and any rhetoric about presidential priorities should be used carefully so as not to distract from other winning arguments.

To the extent that the Obama campaign for Chicago to host the olympics is a reminder of his Chicago politics roots and government graft and corruption: great. But I'm not sure Boehner is the right one to be making that case for exactly the reasons you mentioned, Jeff.

  2. Anonymous says:

but Robert Boehner is merely the messenger here while obama is the message.

however, i like your take on it. i hadnt thought of it quite that way.

    You are freaking kidding….I hope.
Are you trying to get invited to that nutbag Sean Hannity's show?

    ==========
i beleive there is a major distinction here. Bush while at his ranch was STILL ACTIVELY TAING CARE OF THE COURTRY'S BUSINESS. He met with his staff there and performed duties there. secondly, the country was not in this dire situation that obama is mostly resonsible for.

if a war had broken out – - if there was a crisis as in Afghanstan – - if Bush was at any critical point chances are he would have surfaced to be at the white house and even if he were operating from the ranch it would be an obvious rigorous agenda and the public would see and read it that way. what obama is doing in my opinion just shaved off some of his most loyal supporters. it is an insult to PUT ON DISPLAY that you think it more important to be somewhere where you might have assigned surrogates and put the body pileup that allows you such freedoms secondary, or should i say THIRDLY.

even more glaring is TWO JETS TO COPENHAGEN!!!!! TOW SETS OF SECURITY????? TWO COSTS OF JETS???? AND WHY DOES HE NEED SO MANY PEOPLE FROM HIS ADMINISTRATION WITH HIM?

imo, oprah and ms.obama would have been plenty.

another thing: according to the olympic committee in chicago they were scrambling to redesign their presentation because they had no idea obama was going until they heard it along with everyone else.

wasnt valerie jarrett who is also going a member of that chicago olympic committee before she went to live in washington? why didnt she inform them of obama's plans?

and why isnt there a single person in this administration that can better advise obama about these grave perceptions and error in judgments he is making? this is getting beyond ridiculous to embarrassment.

Sean Hannity is not a nutbag or anything close to it. Sean is an honest decent man. If you feel sean has lied to yoiu about something then lets have it!!!

had many americans at least followed up on what sean was warning us all about with regard to obama we would not be in debt up to our ears. we would not be giving $200 million to tiny country Palau… we would not be giving LAPTOPS and piping in aljeezra network to inmates at GITMO. WE WOULD NOT BE APOLOGIZING and appearing as the weakest link in the western hemisphere. OBAMA HAS TURNED OUT TO BE LESS THAN.

SEAN TOLD US ALL THAT AYERS, AND REVE. WRIGHT MATTERED…. now we are living with ther reality of ignoring it. it is only NOW that some of te MSM are admitting they erred in not investigating obama and they are only admitting it because they dont want to be remembered as a part of the problem they helped to create.

    we love Sean Hannity.

    Jeff,

Bringing the Olympics to Chicago is important. Just imagine the money that can be skimmed, misappropriated, stolen, etc. No place can do this better than Chicago.

  9. Larry Walker Jr says:

Yeah, yet Obama seems incapable of carrying on America's business from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

  10. Gail B says:

So, if Chicago gets the Olympics–what then? Chicago is broke! There's no money in Chicago.

We had the Olympics in Atlanta–Good grief! It ain't easy, but at least we had the land for it. Where's Chicago gonna put anything? In the lake? The traffic up there is awful already.

Obama/Soetoro would have done better to have stayed home and partied down, as usual. But then maybe he couldn't find another reason to visit Denmark to play the big shot.

There's something in it for SOMEBODY, you can be sure! Maybe he's planning on getting the fired ACORNs a job for each in construction.

It isn't the GOP who is winning the healthcare debate. We The People are winning the healthcare debate. Would any of the delays have happened if the GOP had simply chosen their words carefully? Would any of the changes have happened had they only chosen their words carefully? Would any of the democrats have voted against it had they simply chosen their words carefully? No. Granted, there is still a lot of hard work to be done, but it is going to be the American people who force it to get done. The only credit the GOP deserves at this point, is continuing to listen to the American people, and trying to represent us as we require them to do, and continue to act as we require them to act.
This is an outdated way of accessing future outcomes. With the impact of the continued and growing protest movement, especially after 9-12, the national conversation has changed. We The People are not going to settle for old ways of Washington politics, and that is what this article seems to assume. It underestimates the impact of the American people, and the impact that we have had on the small victories that have happened. It puts all of the hope and leadership in the GOP, and "that aint where it's at". The GOP needs to follow. That is how they are going to win!
Lastly, we don't need Boehner to tell us that the president is dropping the ball with this whole Olympics thing. We already know that, and we can make up our own minds as to decide that we don't like it. And, we don't. What Boehner needed to say here is that he agrees with us, and his party will work hard to do better than the other, and his party will be the one that will listen to the American people, treat us with the respect they should, and continue to do what is right by us. That is the new way of winning over the people of America.

Chuck – you really need to work on your arguments. If you can't play with the people with common sense, keep your mouth shut.

    Hi Jeff -

I would like to see a sum total of all the money he has wasted jet-setting & partying around the world. It is disgusting. I don't think it hurts to have this brought up by the GOP, especially by someone who still commands some semblance of respect.

AMEN to that & to your stand for the American people who are indeed responsible for turning around the healthcare debate. I think it would be a great idea for you to forward that e-mail to him & to Michael Steele as well.

    To "Chris Brown";

Try to understand that objecting to a person's policies and goals does not necessarily translate into "haters".

It's unfortunate that every argument seems to devolve into accusations of either "racist" or "haters" rather than a serious discussion of opposing ideas. The main thrust of AmericasRight it adherence to the Constitution.

If certain groups of persons don't like the "constraints", as Obama put it, of the Constitution, then let them follow the prescribed process for amending it, not make laws or enact policies that simply trample it under foot.

So my suggestion is to work on your ability to argue your position with something more substantive than "I love the Obamas". The education that you probably received in the public school system is not going to give you the knowledge that one needs to make informed decisions.

    Chris Brown said,

"I love the obama's I think there doing a great job and they should keep up the good work haters step back."

Old Bob expressed my sentiments exactly, but my wording is more to the point: I neither hate Obama/Soetoro nor like him. I do hate that Americans are becoming stressed out over his attempt to gain control over our lives. I do hate that he has little regard and no respect for the United States Constitution.

And, I do not believe that he is a valid president. Even a cop on the street can say, "Show me your ID."

    Summary:
43%View Obama's Olympic Trip As Bad Idea, 36% Disagree

Forty-three percent (43%) of Americans say it's a bad idea for President Obama to go overseas at this time to help Chicago make its final presentation to the International Olympic Committee. But 36% disagree and think it's a good move on the president's
    part.

But, as Jeff pointed out–don't let the Olympics Campaign distract us from what's ahead of us. (I just ran across the info in my enewsletters.)

Hey, thanks, friends. I didn't think that you would miss me, but I'm glad that you do.

I thoroughly enjoy reading the comments that all of the "regulars" make. Jeff has assembled a really great bunch of readers, and I have noticed the same thing that Glenn Beck has talked about; the number of women who are speaking up. I honestly think that the Gails, Lisas, Susans,Jeanos, Lillys, and Goddessdivines of the world "get it" better than many of the males. Keep up the good work. It's going to be a long, hard, slog to push back the tide of darkness that's enveloping this nation.

chris brown, what good work have the obama's done?I know what they haven't done. They haven't brought this country together, haven't been honest about anything, haven't had time to visit wounded troops or their family's, haven't had time to care about anything but their own sorry ass time in the limelight. Please tell me what they have done. I'll be waiting.

    Hi Old Bob -

Thanks for the encouragement – I too have missed your input very much. It is indeed a darkness & I believe we are in a spiritual battle, as well as a battle for our country & her ideals. We must keep lighting our candles & torches wherever there is an opportunity.

May God bless you & your light!
