June 6, 1944

For the most part, this is something I posted last year on this day, and I feel it should reappear. God forbid we ever forget what happened during that day in 1944, and all the days surrounding. — Jeff

Sixty-five years ago today, approximately 130,000 unfathomably brave soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, France, determined to fight through a dug-in and determined enemy and liberate Europe from the clutches of Nazi Germany.

When the dust settled, when Hitler was dead and victory in Europe declared, more than 750,000 American and British soldiers had made the ultimate sacrifice.

Without the bravery of these men, and of all who fought against–and supported the fight against–Hitler and the Axis powers, the world today would be a much different place. Say a prayer, today, for those who died then, for those who have died since, and for those who every day grow older in the country and countries they fought to preserve.

And, I may add this year, say a prayer for our United States of America. May God continue to bless this great nation.

My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation. It has come to pass with success thus far.

And so, in this poignant hour, I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God: Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.

Lead them straight and true; give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith.

They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard. For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces. Success may not come with rushing speed, but we shall return again and again; and we know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph.

They will be sore tried, by night and by day, without rest-until the victory is won. The darkness will be rent by noise and flame. Men’s souls will be shaken with the violences of war.

For these men are lately drawn from the ways of peace. They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest. They fight to liberate. They fight to let justice arise, and tolerance and good will among all Thy people. They yearn but for the end of battle, for their return to the haven of home.

Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.

And for us at home — fathers, mothers, children, wives, sisters, and brothers of brave men overseas — whose thoughts and prayers are ever with them–help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice.

Many people have urged that I call the Nation into a single day of special prayer. But because the road is long and the desire is great, I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts.

Give us strength, too — strength in our daily tasks, to redouble the contributions we make in the physical and the material support of our armed forces.

And let our hearts be stout, to wait out the long travail, to bear sorrows that may come, to impart our courage unto our sons wheresoever they may be.

And, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee; Faith in our sons; Faith in each other; Faith in our united crusade. Let not the keenness of our spirit ever be dulled. Let not the impacts of temporary events, of temporal matters of but fleeting moment let not these deter us in our unconquerable purpose.

With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy. Help us to conquer the apostles of greed and racial arrogancies. Lead us to the saving of our country, and with our sister Nations into a world unity that will spell a sure peace a peace invulnerable to the schemings of unworthy men. And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil.

Thy will be done, Almighty God.

    Too bad FDR turned away the Jews when they needed him. Too bad he turned a blind eye to the Jews altogether, until he could no longer ignore them.

    I was born after this speech, and how in awe I am that the president included a prayer in his speech. Lead in prayer by the nation's leader. Wow!

    The president we have now downplayed our National Day of Prayer.

    What a contrast!

    If the patriots are successful in having sealed records released and those records do not legitimize this president, the mark left on our country will be a contrast of a different kind.

    As Americans, is this what we want?

    The eligibity issue, whether proven or disproven, needs to be resolved as soon as possible. The division being caused by its existence is weakening our country. I, for one, do believe it is orchestrated.

    Did anyone try to find D-Day programs on network television? Or public broadcasting? Nothing. Very sad. You know what they say about people who forget history…

    Dark Leo, no one, (I repeat) no one has forgotten about the birth certificate. Barry's father was a British subject; his mother was not old enough to pass her U.S. citizenship to her son. Barry was adopted by an Indonesian.

    Everyone focused on the B.C. because he fought releasing it, even after admitting that he found it in a book (I believe he said in his attic).

    As someone told me this week, we are backing a bunch of rattlesnakes into a corner, and something has to give — and he believes it will be soon.

    Barry is telling the American people things he doesn't realize, such as about his having lived in Indonesia for several years as a child. Someone made a comment about that in Sunday's Atlanta Journal & Constitution. There have been a number of comments about him lately, and they haven't been complimentary.

    Jeff has told us time and time again, until the wall shielding his ineligibility is broken through, we are better off fighting him issue by issue.

    For example, we CANNOT let the national healthcare be passed through Congress. We simply cannot afford it. Obama(?) is spending money as rapidly and as wastefully as he can, for the purpose of bankrupting this nation. He's not interested in stimulating the economy; he's interested in (1) control and (2) his backers getting rich from his climate control, collapsed housing, regulations, and on and on and on. FOLLOW THE MONEY!
