Ask: Why the Lack of Full Disclosure?

Assigned Reading: Intel Director: High-Value Info Obtained
(FROM: Associated Press)

I hate to keep beating a dead horse–beating a dead horse, by the way, is a figure of speech and is not included in the CIA repertoire–but, as we learn more and more about which interrogation memos were released and which were not, we need to focus not only on what it was that was concealed, but exactly why the Obama administration consciously did not want the American people to know the truth.

The very first sentence of this AP article, noting that Obama’s own top intel official acknowledged last week–quietly–that good information was obtained through CIA measures, is extremely telling. They knew, but decided to release information obscuring that success in hopes of drumming up populist outrage.

A plea from a tired law student — talk about these memos with your friends, with your co-workers. Make sure they know the full story, make sure your friends and co-workers not only know there is more here than what the administration and complicit media is disclosing, but that they also think about why the truth is actively being withheld.

Liberals always run into problems advancing their agenda when they encounter common sense. That’s why they need crisis to operate. That’s why Americans can’t know that making Khalid Sheikh Mohammed uncomfortable saved thousands of American lives.

If it was proven that raping female prisoners was effective in making them talk quicker, would you support rape as an interrogation technique?

How about if burning one of the prisoners alive at Guatanamo in the presence of other prisoners caused other terror suspects to talk?

    How about crucifixions?

Is effectiveness really the issue? My father, lifelong conservative, flew over 60 combat missions in the Pacific theatre in WW2, and cried his heart out before he died a couple of years ago when he learned that the US was starting to justify torture. “This isn’t the America I fought for”, he said.

My god folks: what have conservatives become that torture is being justified–for any reason? Jeff Schreiber, you should be ashamed of yourself, pandering to the fascist right in America in this way.

Obama is doing exactly the right thing by ending this absolutely abhorrent and shameful chapter in American history. The torture issue specifically, above all others, was the issue that caused me to vote for Obama over the candidate of the torture-justifying Republican Party (even though the candidate personally, to his credit, also opposed torture… and lost Republican Party voter support due to that opposition, which told me all I needed to know about the soul of the Republican Party voting base).

    Keep beating the horse, Jeff.

  3. Bryan says:

Jeff, I am not sure anyone cares about the interrogation techniques, except for those liberal extremists. Our Massiah Barack is just campaining for 2012. Barack sure is a dufus of a leader.

It sickens me to watch this administration point fingers at the previous one and proclaim that “no one is above the law” and that the US lost our moral compass when dealing with the detainees. If THEY had a moral compass, those words would stick in their throats
considering the lack of honesty, integrity and patriotism that this administration has exhibited. They would have the American people believe that they are so ethical that they are bringing new standards of accountability to government….what a joke!!! They can say these things because they have no conscience…they insult our intelligence by thinking that ALL of us are buying this CRAP. Unfortunately, some are and they choose to focus on something like the picture of El Presidente on The Washingtonian and take comfort in the fact that we have a ‘hot’ President..the manipulation of the mindless zombies continues.

What a ploy… This keeps the administration talking about Bush on a continual basis and off topic of their own agenda. Shame on the republicans for many things…. One of which was to not defend Bush at all during the last campaign and allowing the Liberals to dictate in which direction the campaign would go. If this were reversed, the Dems would be all over the TV talking about Bush hiding information from the people. Where are the leaders in the GOP?

I have actually been surprised to learn most of my coworkers and friends are aware. And by the way, some of them are black and regret ever voting for “the one”.

These memos prove to me that we were NOT torturing terrorists. I heard on the Laura Ingraham Show that Diane Feinstein was livid that the Obama administration was not going to prosecute the lawyers that ok’d these techniques and that is one of the reason why the administration is now talking about going after them. Diane Feinstein should be flooded with phone calls telling her that she needs to be the one prosecuted for her inside dealings funneling government money that will benefit her husbands company.
Lay off the hardworking and moral lawyers who wrote the memos and go after yet another corrupt politician, Diane Feinstein.

  8. OH PLEASE says:

A dissenting voice, what a drama queen. George Washington would have slapped you on the battlefield. No telling what Patton would have done.

  9. CAL says:

    A dissenting voice,
Please point to one thing in these memos that could be considered torture – face grabbing?? Please. The only thing that is an issue is waterboarding and this was used as a last resort and was successful in uncovering the terrorist plot to take down a skyscraper in LA in the same manner the 911 hijackers took down the World Trade Centers. I for one am on the side of saving American lives.

  10. CAL says:

One final point – I learned on Laura Ingraham this morning that now that these techniques are off the table, we have very little available to us to get information out of terrorists. We are not even allowed to insult them during interrogations. Terrorists will be treated better than American criminals.

  11. Anna Leigh says:

Had the other party instituted the tactics used by the Bush administration, would we be hearing such cries of outrage?

I doubt many of those espousing their lofty ideals are actually willing to die for their principles.

We now know that the “captives” give themselves permission (even through Allah) to talk when the going gets too tough. And the “captors” stop as well at that point. So now can not going beyond what can be tolerated be truly “torture”?

As the POTUS continues to weaken conditions for safety for the fighting troops and the morale causing confusion for actions by operatives already risking their lives abroad, he proceeds with plans to strengthen his own power hungry plans to control good citizens at home:

    Obama
    and the
    Military
    4/22/09 Obama’s Jugend

Yesterday, Obama signed a huge expansion of his “youth brigades” legislation when he signed into law the “GIVE Act,” H.R. 1388. This bill provides for the massive expansion of the National Service Corporation and allocates to it billions of dollars. One of the program’s executives says it will allow for the management of up to eight or nine million people.

The Obama File has been tracking Obama’s plans to assemble such a corps ever since Obama told a campaign stop in Colorado Springs in 2008 that he wants a “Civilian National Security Force” as big and as well-funded as the U.S. military.

H.R. 1388 includes a National Service Reserve Corps whose members have completed a term of national service, training and not less than 10 hours of volunteering each year.

In a conference call with WorldNewsDaily.com reporters, Alan Solomont, the chairman of the Corporation for National and Community Service, said the 75,000 current members of the AmericCorps program “leverage” about 2.2 million volunteers, and the total of all such volunteers who are managed through the federal program total about four million.

He said the possibility with the expanded authorization and funding means that up to eight or nine million could be involved.

“If we triple the size of AmeriCorps from 75,000 members to 250,000 members annually, and if we — if those 75,000 AmeriCorps members are currently engaging 2.2. million volunteers a year, we could triple that to 6.6 million volunteers, 250,000 AmeriCorps members. So I think — you can do the math — I think that was about six or seven million, and then we have another half a million in Senior Corps and another million or so in Learn and Serve America [for children],” he said.

And he’s not counting the people in Obama’s Public Allies, nor those trained in the many Camp Obamas.

Congress is also considering a “public service academy, a four-year institution that offers a federally funded undergraduate education with a focus on training future public sector leaders.”

Joseph Farah, warns, that if we’re going to create some kind of national police force as big, powerful and well-funded as our combined U.S. military forces, isn’t this rather a big deal? I thought Democrats generally believed the U.S. spent too much on the military. How is it possible their guy is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together?

Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that? If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?

Melody Barnes, director of the White House domestic policy council, confirmed the plan was in response to Obama’s demand for civilian service during his campaign.

“That’s certainly something that the president has spoken about. And he started his call around nation service publicly during the course of the campaign when he talked about the fact that government cannot be a solution to all of our problems, and we have to work together,” she said.

Officials said there also are specific programs for seniors and children to become involved in the government operation, and the plan goes far beyond just working on planting trees or addressing storm damage.

“The bill provides the opportunity for a social innovation fund,” said one official, that will allow the government to pursue changes in health care, energy and education — Obama’s trifecta.

Judi McLeod wrote for Canada Free Press that the bill simply would turn everybody into a community organizer.

“Everybody means the roughly seven million people called to public duty in the $6 billion National Service effort,” she said. “But members pressed into the service of the one million-strong Youth Brigade, sanctioned by ‘Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE),’ will have none of the freedoms of the community organizer who started it all.

“There’s no room for God in Obama’s long promised Youth Brigade, no room to protest, petition, to boycott or to support a strike, and loopholes to give its mandatory membership a pass,” she wrote. “Obama’s plan requires anyone receiving school loans, among others to serve at least three months as part of the brigade.”

Gary Wood at Examiner.com said it’s part of Obama’s plan to set up national service. He noted the explanation offered by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel: “It’s time for a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us. We propose universal civilian service for every young American. Under this plan, all Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 will be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic training, civil defense preparation and community service.”

This is nothing more than one, big, government-funded indoctrination program — Obama intends to create his ow own Jugend.

  13. Gail B says:

My daddy taught me to “read between the lines.”

Well, let’s look at what Obama has written into history:

+ He announced that there would be no torture to obtain information.

+ He announced that he would close Gitmo by January 2010.

+ He has released methods of interrogation involving questionable torture during the Bush administration.

+ He has not released what was prevented by obtaining information under interrogation.

+ He went to London, shook the queen’s hand and bowed almost double to the Saudi king.

+ Did he REALLY give the order for the SEALS to shoot the pirates? Captain Richard Phillips thanked everybody, from top to bottom of the list–EXCEPT Obama! Wonder WHY NOT?!

+ Obama gave a ghetto handshake to Hugo Chavez.

+ Obama has drooled all over the place with Muslim leaders, thinking that his “campaign charm” would win them over. All they have done is laugh at him and call him weak.

+ Obama had the initials of Jesus COVERED UP with a piece of plywood painted black at Georgetown University.

+ For 20 years Obama attended a church where the pastor preached on hating America but separated himself from Rev. Jeremiah Wright only when the subject matter of his sermons became public.

+ Under Obama’s watch, the Napolitano “Assessment” came out, which essentially identified anyone who upholds the Constitution of the United States as a “rightwing terrorist extremist.” However, nothing came from the White House about the “leftwing terrorist extremist” who has tattoos of falling buildings on his front torso and who is on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List.

+ The list goes on and on, unto ad nauseam.

What I get from this is that Obama is not working for the American people. I get that he is sending a message to Islamic terrorists that he is one of them and that he is working on bringing America down from within.

This might sound a bit extreme, but it’s what I’m hearing and seeing.

Obama is not giving out the information of what was accomplished by the CIA interrogation methods because he does not want the American people to know what the Republican Bush administration did right. Obama wants to point the finger at anyone he can, blame anyone he can, and spin the truth.

Jeff, I’ve probably said enough to get myself locked up, but that’s what I’m reading in the news and hearing on the newscasts.

As I’ve said before, I’ll take my chances. My grandchildren’s freedom is at stake. I’m dispensable.

    (Anna Leigh–that’s a beautiful name.)

    THIS IS IMPORTANT, FOLKS:

Watch out for talks about a TREATY with Mexico concerning guns!

Here’s the link to an interview that Glenn Beck had with former Bush Senior Advisor Karl Rove and former US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton on April 20, 2009:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,517304,00.html or, READ the interview and see the VIDEO here.

If the US and Mexico sign a treaty against guns, our Second Amendment will have been flushed down the toilet. We need to let our congressmen know about that, too. I’m not up on “treaty law.” How does that work, Jeff?

Word to verify: NOLOWA (No Lower)

  15. JEFF SCHREIBER says:

Gail — I’ve heard about it. This and HR 45 are bad news for gun owners. I want to write about it, but I just don’t have the time I know I’d devote to it.

Still, I’m compiling information for when I can get to it after exams.

  16. Gail B says:

Jeff, you’re a sweetheart! Thank you very much. I’ll be able to sleep, knowing that you are aware of it.

    Thanks again.

  17. Dee says:

Gail, I have to agree with you on the points you made regarding BO. I do not think he has the country’s best interest in mind. He is out to promote himself and take us down the wrong path. I read an article yesterday that eventually he had to stop this “reverse everything Bush did” and create his own name. However, as I previously said, he will not take the blame for anything bad that may happen. If we are attacked again, I’m sure that somehow it will be Bush’s fault, just like the rain we had today was surely Bush’s fault.
There are many of us who will be locked up with you, Gail, so you won’t be alone.
Thank you, Jeff, and all the others. You all keep me thinking.

I am just an outsider looking within, I,m from Canada, Seriously what the Hell is happening to your country?? And damn if it aint happening so quickly. What you need is someone very high up within the military that still has the best interests of your country in thier heart, Someone that the troops will trust and believe in to bring the troops home and clean house and get back to what America once was , Until this happens then the only path your country is on is a scary predictable path, A path with only one end result and it obviousy is not gonna be a good result, Until then and only then will your country will be put back on the good path!!
