This weekend, because I have no choice but to spend it studying, I’m going to leave these photos up here (photos from the Drudge Report). Something about them struck me as odd. Perhaps it’s that the reception given to a sworn enemy of the United States seems, I don’t know, just as warm a reception as would be given to an old friend.
Given that the president’s old friends have a lot in common with Hugo Chavez–in that they dislike the United States–and given that the president himself has taken every opportunity he can to apologize for the country he now leads, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised.
Chavez reportedly gave President Obama a Spanish-language book entitled Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent, essentially a collection of commentaries illustrating how the strong United States has always abused the weak. My first thought: I didn’t know that Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis was translated into Spanish…
Anyway, caption these photos. My first attempts:
Chavez: “Barry, did you get those Chomsky books I sent you?”
Obama: “Yes, thank you, but I’ve already read them all.”
