Holding On To The Hoax

Much to the dismay of former Vice President Al Gore and his granola-munching, rarely-showered disciples, new reports are repudiating the farce-as-fact perpetuated by the global warming crowd. As it turns out, studies are now showing that the Earth has NOT warmed since 1998, and has in fact cooled back down to levels unseen since 1983.

Now, as I’ve said many times before, we cannot just jump to the conclusion that the Earth is not warming in general, nor can we forget that we need to be careful and good stewards of the planet — however, the green-crazy culture (and the mainstream media which feeds it) needs to step back for a moment and look at the big picture before it does more harm than it hopes to prevent.

The media-fed global warming activists want to tell us that man is causing disastrous warming trends, yet Mars is getting warmer and the last time I checked … we’re not there.

The media-fed global warming activists want to tell us that unless we reverse this trend–presumably by enacting legislation and regulations which would cripple our economy and never be mirrored by India and China, the world’s leading polluters–the planet will continue to warm until the seas rise, until crops refuse to grow and until, according to Ted Turner, the race of man are forced into cannibalism.

Doesn’t this strike anybody else as alarmist?

Surely, the media will wise up, look at the facts, and report that the debate over climate change is actually anything BUT over, right?

Right?!?

Behold the revered BBC. The BBC known for its fairness, its propensity to dig and report without agenda. Yes, that BBC.

A few days ago, the BBC released an article entitled “Global Temperatures to Decrease,” which stated plainly the results of the aforementioned study — that temperatures are actually decreasing, rather than increasing as the Al Gore crowd would like us to believe. Shortly thereafter, a global warming activist exchanged e-mails with the reporter, urging him to change the tone of the language used.

And he did.

Here’s how the piece was originally worded:

Global temperatures will drop slightly this year as a result of the cooling effect of the La Nina current in the Pacific, UN meteorologists have said.

The World Meteorological Organization’s secretary-general, Michel Jarraud, told the BBC it was likely that La Nina would continue into the summer.

This would mean global temperatures have not risen since 1998, prompting some to question climate change theory.

After the activist and the reporter exchanged several e-mail messages–the e-mail exchange is available at Newsbusters.com, here’s how the article looked after the BBC knelt before the public relations wing of the global warming crowd:

Global temperatures will drop slightly this year as a result of the cooling effect of the La Nina current in the Pacific, UN meteorologists have said.

The World Meteorological Organization’s secretary-general, Michel Jarraud, told the BBC it was likely that La Nina would continue into the summer.

But this year’s temperatures would still be way above the average – and we would soon exceed the record year of 1998 because of global warming induced by greenhouse gases.

When Al Gore famously said that “the debate is over,” he must have meant it. The people on his side of the discussion have done nothing but dismiss as quacks the wealth of scientists refuting the green-crazy claims and as lies the scientific facts pointing in the direction of warming and cooling as a typical, normal cyclical trend. Now, when data is released by the World Meteorological Organization saying the exact same thing, activists go out of their way to perpetuate the hoax by pestering and strong-arming the messenger.

This must stop. It must stop before we do long-term damage to our economy, to our sovereignty, and even to our environment. At the very least, the media must do its job and allow for the broadcast of both sides of the debate.

We do need to be respectful of our Earth, but we also need to be humble enough to realize that we do not know all of the answers from our limited time on the planet and our limited knowledge of her ways.
